Congratulations! Today is Christmas day, glory be to God in
the highest. You are a part of this year’s Christmas celebration. Today is a
day of joy and celebration in commemoration of the birth f Jesus Christ. But
beyond all these, it is a season of exchange of gifts with friends and loved
ones. At this centre of Christmas is love obviously demonstrated by giving.
God
Himself demonstrated this: He first loved us so much that He proved it by
releasing to us the most precious gift ever given in the history of mankind –
Jesus Christ, John 3:16. Love is best shown by giving. This has made me realize
that love merely confessed, that does not involve giving is fake.
True love goes beyond mere confession, it is action.
One of
the acid tests of the genuineness of the person you are dating is his/her
giving attitude. Does he/she give you things without you begging for it? If the
answer is no, then let me say that, the love is not genuine. It is not even the
size or the cost of the gift that is really important, but the mind or attitude
behind it. A person who finds it difficult to give to fellow human beings will
no doubt finds it hard to give to his God. You can give without loving but you
cannot love without giving.
Majority of people had erroneously defined Christmas only as
a period to wine and dine, for fashion show and so on but it is more than
these. While I am not condemning these in its entirety, I wish to say that
Christmas should not be for selfishness. It is a time to reach out to people
with gifts of food items, clothes, money and the likes. Someone must be happy
through you this Christmas. Your happiness multiplies when you make others
happy.
Christmas is God’s greatest statement of love. The best way to convince
God that we appreciate His love is to reach out to others in love.
I wish you a merry Christmas.
Love is best demonstrated by giving
